Rob Scheps returns to SteepleChase with Blue States, a vivid new chapter for the long-running Core Tet and a striking evolution from his 2019 release Comencio (SCCD 31866). Drawing on the same sharp instincts praised in earlier reviews-his 'big-toned' authority on tenor and the 'loose, inviting allure' of his soprano-Scheps expands his palette here with an unexpected but compelling front line of trumpet, soprano saxophone, and flute.
